Tech for Inclusion: AI-Based Smart Road Crossing Assistant at I²IT ProjectExpo 2026
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at RIT Polytechnic, Pune, is proud to recognize the innovative work of our students at the I²IT ProjectExpo 2026, held in the tech hub of Hinjewadi.
Representing the department with a focus on social responsibility, our student team presented a project that perfectly aligns with the “AI for Good” philosophy: “AI-Based Smart Road Crossing Assistant for Visually Impaired People.”
Project Spotlight: Accessibility Through AI
This project addresses a critical safety challenge by utilizing Artificial Intelligence to empower visually impaired individuals. By integrating computer vision and real-time processing, the assistant provides:
Object & Obstacle Detection: Real-time identification of vehicles and road conditions.
Navigation Assistance: Safe guidance for crossing busy intersections.
Enhanced Independence: Using technology to bridge the gap in urban accessibility.
A Moment of Inspiration
Beyond the technical presentation, a significant highlight of the event was the opportunity to interact with Shridha Mankar, the renowned creator of 5 Minutes Engineering. Such interactions with industry leaders who specialize in simplifying complex concepts provide our students with unique insights into technical storytelling.
Team Recognition
We congratulate the following students for their technical ingenuity and for representing RIT Polytechnic with excellence:
Vitali Shivanand
Poonam Poul
Sarthak Pal
Aryan Kumar Ojha
The department commends these young innovators for their dedication to exploring AI applications that truly make a difference in people’s lives.
